Carol Fessler (Briant) VIEW PROFILE

Carol Louise Briant, 75, was born November 14, 1941, in Kansas City, MO. Daughter of Virginia and William Fessler. Carol passed away at Olathe Medical Center on August 6, 2017. She is survived by grand-daughter  Kelly Umberger, great grandsons Cameron Shackelford, Trenton Umberger, Crosby Umberger, brother Bill (Rosie) Fessler, sister Mimi Ambrosi, nieces, a nephew, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean Briant, daughter Patti Umberger, many other children born sleeping, and nephew David Tanner.

Carol started taking ballet classes at a very young age and it was clear to see she was a natural. All her practice and dedication paid off because she danced in shows for the Starlight Theatre. She graduated from Southeast High School and continued her education at KC Jr. College.

In 1959 her daughter, Patti, was born and she was so happy to become a mother. Carol had complications with the birth of Patti, which almost cost Carol her life. Fortunately she made a full recovery. A short time later, on December 2nd 1960, she married Dean Briant. They bought a house in Overland Park, where she resided for 57 years. They were married for 50 years. They enjoyed going to the race track, where Carol would race and Dean would cheer her on from the stands. He would bet anyone willing that she would win and infact Carol always won in her MG and Trans Am. Sitting in her metal bar car seat was her co-pilot Patti. After many years of racing Carol slowed down and even got a license plate that said GRANNI. Carol worked in outside sales, in the office for Deffenbaugh, the Akin Company, and others. Many times she was the lead in sales and was sent out of town on business trips.

In the late 1980's Carol’s parents came to live with her as they needed her care. She stayed home to take care of them and her hobbies became shooting and gardening. She would plant all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and tulips. In 1996 Carol won 2 gold medals in the Kansas sunflower state Olympics. One medal for skeet shooting and the other for pistol shooting. Carol had so much love to give and was the ultimate caregiver. Besides taking care of both her parents, she also cared for her husband and daughter.

She is loved and terribly missed. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 26th at the Matt Ross Community Center,  8101 Marty St., Overland Park, Kansas.
